Road Carriers Association "Latvijas Auto" is a non-governmental organization uniting Latvian companies involved in road transportation of goods and passengers.
The Association was established on March 23, 1990, and it became the first organization of that kind in the former USSR territory.
Initially the "Latvijas Auto" consisted of only 32 members, now the number of members of the Association has risen up to almost 650 enterprises with more then 8000 vehicles at their disposal. Most of the trucks belonging association members are friendly to the environment, i.e. 77% of all the trucks are equipped with Euro 4, Euro 3 and Euro 2 engines.
Since the 1992 the Association "Latvijas Auto" has been a member of International Road Transport Union that allows Latvian road carriers to use all the advantages stipulated by international conventions and agreements. "Latvijas Auto" is guarantor of TIR system in Latvia. Since establishing of the Association until 2007 almost 1.3 million of TIR carnets have been issued to the Association members.
Members of "Latvijas Auto" offer road transportation of goods and passenger's services to more then 30 countries of world.
The main directions of "Latvijas Auto" activities are:
- To represent, defend and lobby road carrier's interests in governmental structures
- To assist "Latvijas Auto" members abroad, in case any difficulties occur
- To inform Association members about important events into the field of road transportation
- To issue TIR carnets and guaranties
- Training and consultancy
